A day retreat for psychologists in private practice

Room to Roam

3 July 2026 · Yorkshire Sculpture Park · Small group of 12

As psychologists, we are skilled at holding space for others, whether that is our clients, our supervisees, or the team members we lead. And sometimes we can overstretch ourselves, say yes when we want to say no, or forget to think about our own needs; all of which can leave us feeling depleted. This retreat day has been purposefully designed to leave you feeling rejuvenated, connected to your peers and with a sense of what you'd like to adjust in your practice to give more space for you.

We were trained to be thoughtful, reflective clinicians, but our training didn't equip us to run a business. Developing a business is an emotional rollercoaster, we are constantly making complex decisions, wearing different hats and taking risks. As psychologists we often feel a tension between being a therapist and being a founder and as our practices grow, this tension can become exhausting. It's also surprisingly easy to fall into patterns that don't fulfill us, or burn us out, and we can lose sight of why we started our practice in the first place.

Room to Roam is a retreat day that will give you valuable time and space to recharge, reflect on where you are and come back to yourself and what youare longing for, so that you can return to your practice with new energy and a clearer sense of your direction of travel for the next 12 months.

What this day will give you

Space to reset and recharge

Room to Roam includes a restorative morning designed to help you reset and recharge before anything else happens.

Permission to stop problem-solving and simply be

So much of our working life is about doing and helping others. This day creates space to slow down, breathe, move and reconnect with yourself.

Connection with others who truly get it

You'll be part of a small group of twelve psychologists in private practice, people who understand the particular tension of this work in a way that most people in our lives often don't.

Time in nature

The grounds at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park are beautiful and spacious. We'll be moving outside and creating the ideal context for new insights. The location has been chosen to offer a welcome break from your therapy room.

A clearer direction of travel for the rest of the year and beyond

Using a powerful visualisation and reflective practices, the afternoon is dedicated to helping you reconnect with what you truly want from your practice and your life. You'll be invited to consider the dreams you hold but have been putting off.

The shape of the day

The Settling

A restorative morning including movement, breathwork and time in the grounds, designed to recharge you and create the optimal conditions for the afternoon.

The Clearing

Reflective practices to help you access the wisdom within you and the dreams you hold, which often get drowned out when we are always doing. You'll leave with greater clarity about what you long for from your practice and a direction of travel for the next year.

Maybe you want to offer outdoor therapy, write a book, take the whole summer off, start work at 11am, or deliver talks in schools. Or something completely different! This is the space to find your dream and start to move in that direction.
